Together, we can begin to make a difference.

Brenda Valentine and some of her BucksIf more families shared a common interest, like bowhunting, there would certainly be less juvenile delinquency and less child abuse. Kids need to learn about nature and observe the natural order of things. They need to understand that humans are the greatest predator on earth and will always be at the top of the food chain. They also need to learn that hunting is a good and honorable thing.

The old adage that "If you take your kids hunting, you won't be hunting for your kids" is more true today than ever before. Since a large portion of our youth live in single parent homes, so many times things like hunting is left in the hands of the mother. I see this predicament endlessly in hunter education classes. The mother brings her children to the class and then becomes interested herself. The future of hunting is now, more than ever, in the hands of mothers, aunts, sisters and grandmothers.

But what if they don't know about hunting? Well, this column will be geared to help those who think they might be interested in learning about bowhunting. Some of you may have dabbled in it years ago and would like to take it up again. Others already enjoy the sport and may just want to improve your skills. What ever your position I know you will enjoy joining me here and hopefully together, we can begin to make a difference.
